[specimen] Can you layer samples to trigger at different velocities?

I'm a Specimen user not a devel so I'm not in the know, but edrz told me on 
#lad that layering is on the to-do list. I figured that adding layering logic 
would require considerable changes to the patch handling code, but that was 
because I didn't realize it's already possible to assign multiple samples to 
the same note. So wouldn't layering be possible by just adding one simple 
feature: velocity range? One would add a patch, bind it to C4, and set its 
velocity range to 0-63, and then add another patch for C4 and set the 
velocity to 64-127. Right?
