The only other apps using Phat were Khagan and early versions of Nedko's
zyn stuff.

Khagan is unmaintained. Nedko doesn't use Phat anymore, I think. Loki
tried to make the fan-sliders flicker-free, but didn't succeed (I mean
to recall it led to a dependency on compositing and/or obscene CPU
load). None of the stakeholders has an interest to ever get back to
Phat, the project is dead and Specimen is the one remaining reason to
care about it.
